OUR HISTORY
It all began in the year 1970 when insurance executive John Roy Thompson opened an insurance agency in Clarks Summit, PA.
In the early 90s, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) extended an invitation to their trusted messenger partners to a run a pilot program that granted the messenger services access to PennDOT’s database which allowed title and tag agencies to instantly complete motor vehicle and driver license transactions. After extensive deliberation, and having denied hundreds of applicants, the commonwealth granted Thompson the opportunity to offer the instant services, which, at the time, made him the 11th person to be authorized by PennDOT in the state.
Now with the ability to provide title and tag services, Thompson opened Northeast Title and Tag, Inc. working in concert with Thompson Insurance, after several years of hard work and perseverance, he saw potential for additional growth and a way to help customers with title, tag and insurance services.
In 1994, he partnered with his daughter Maria Thompson- Carter and cousin Catherine “Kitty” O’Hara to open several other locations in Northeast Pennsylvania. In 2003, Thompson retired and passed the torch to his daughter Maria Thompson, and as years have past Northeast Title and Tag, Inc. had grown into a much larger business than Roy Thompson ever expected and continues to evolve in many different aspects which include title and tag services, commercial title and tag services and insurance services.
Northeast Title and Tag, Inc. thrives on being a family-owned and operated business with 15 locations in Northeast Pennsylvania and more than 50 years of experience in the industry. We believe their mission is their family behind yours.
